Revelation 13 |
|
This chapter of Revelation shows us the two beasts (actually 2 men) of Revelation and this chapter deals with specific events related to the tribulation. ________ V 1 and 2 show John standing on the sand of the sea. He sees a beast rise out of the sea and goes on to describe the beast. Also John is describing how the dragon (Satan) directly gives the beast his power, his seat and his GREAT authority. Most people mistakenly call this person the antichrist. The antichrist is described in other places in the bible and is shown taking over the world as the beast is doing here. Plus, as described later in this chapter the second beast is more suited to be called antichrist than this first beast. 1And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. 2And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. V 3, 4, 5 and 6 show a conflict or battle where the beast is wounded in such a way that he should be dead but the beast lives ALL of the 'world' wonders or is amazed about the beast saying, "Who is able to make war with him or fight against or stop him. After his amazing recovery the beast is given a spokesman (a mouth speaking great things and blasphemy or cursing God and all that is holy). Power is given to the beast to continue only for 42 months of 3.5 years. 3And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. 4And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? 5And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. V 7, 8, 9 and 10 show the actual tribulation where the beast was given authority to persecute the saints of Jesus. The beast and all his military and forces are allowed to make war against the saints and actually over come us. This is where the saints will make their stand of faith for Jesus and for the God of heaven. All people on earth except the saints of Jesus, will worship the beast. Their names will not be written in the Lamb's book of life. Here the saints die in their walk of faith for the Most high and the only Begotten son. 7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9If any man have an ear, let him hear. 10He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. V 11 thru 15 show the second beast (the spokesman). He comes from the earth, has two horns like a lamb (imitating Jesus) but he speaks like the dragon (Satan). This person is also called THE false prophet. Jesus (in some religions) is called a prophet instead of the son of God. But here it could be seen that this beats is THE false prophet where Jesus stated in Matthew 24 to be aware of. This second beast has the same power as the first beast. He is the one making the world worship the first beast. The false prophet has power to perform GREAT wonders, even making fire come from the sky. With these powers the false prophet is able to deceive many. V. 14 shows that the first beast had received his deadly wound by a sword ...war. Also this beast causes the people to make an image of the first beast and this image is the one doing the killing. Worship or die. Here the saints will be killed. This is the same as the war made against the saints. In The Rapture Confidential you will learn more about what the image of the beasts really is. 11And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. 12And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. V 16, 17 and 18 show that everyone will be marked. These marks will show allegiance to the beast as well as allegiance to Satan. No person will be able to buy or sell without these marks (the mark, the name of the beast or the number of his name). 16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
